Water Drowned the Fish
Back in 1992, I started writing a novel just after I had opened a visionary art gallery. The gallery was called Good Venom. The novel was Water Drowned the Fish.
It was full of religious and mythical symbolism and outlined to become a 33-chapter masterpiece. Then life happened and it went into a drawer. During the pandemic, I found it on an old hard drive and decided to finish what I started.
This is the story of a co-ed at Ole Miss who gets knocked up by a fraternity boy, elopes with a welder from the wrong side of the tracks, then becomes convinced by a televangelist that she’s carrying the second coming. Her son turns out not to be Christ, realizes his life has been a big lie, and runs away to New Orleans where he falls into the orbit of a Voodoo priestess. It’s kind of a Southern Gothic thing.
I recorded the first few chapters for your listening pleasure. Enjoy. Oh, and if you are an agent or happen to know one, please hook me up!
